So right when i heard the news that preorders were available for the new Bioshock i knew i had to reserve a copy, when looking online we saw the Songbird edition and right away i fell in love with the Songbird and i couldn't wait to play and find out his backstory!
A bit bummed after the last 2 delays with the game the day it released we went over right away (laughing with a worker at Gamestop because we were the only 2 who had actually preordered the Songbird edition so many people were very angry they didn't and even tried to buy our copy, and even bribe the guy with more money to get it! Once we had the game it was beat in about 4 nights and Songbird became my favorite character, the ending broke my heart ;3; and the joking but somewhat serious idea came around that i should make one. Having a bummed day (feeling sad because i didn't have extra money to actually start the songbird) my wonderful husband completely made my day by purchasing my fabrics and notions to help me make him!!
It took a week between work, kids, and being sick. He is made of all suede, has doll joints so his arms and legs are movable, he stands 18 1/2 inches tall and has a wingspan of 32 inches. his wings are wired and has been colored to look similar to the game version, and has clay gear buttons that attach his wings to the back of the suit.

Above: the quick sketch i made to see how i would start making him
His eyes, beak and rings on the front of his suit have all been hand painted as well.
His "breathing tube" and closer picture of his suit
I really loved his eyes and the buttons i used i really fell in love with
Leg patches
His adorable arms ; 3;
His wings
His suit
I love the little details
All in all he took a combined total of about 30+ or so hours to pattern, cut, hand sew, hand paint, and sew together. But he was completely worth it, i would next time use stronger, thicker wire for the wings though, the wire i had was good but i would use a stronger wire. Overall i am very happy with the way he turned out and and looking for new ideas to make!
